Top speed?

Hello fellow Glastron owners! I am new to this forum but I have been boating for years. I own a 79 Glastron 177 SSV with 140HP OMC.....I know.... But the motor runs great and I can deal with the drive quirks. I have a question with top speed. I don't have any idea what the prop is, but I top out at around 4K, my gauge says around 40mph. I just would think that it would do a little bit better, even with just me in the boat.

You have the wrong prop if you are topping out your engine RPM at 4 grand. You should be running much higher than that. I'll bet you probably have a pretty good hole shot though.

I've read that the majority of glastons with the right prop and close to highest possible HP rating they can handle will do 50+ according to the chart I read when it was still posted at the classic glastron website ( link no longer hosted ).
