I bet this reply might have some wires smoking as you have to gauge wire on your hook up accordingly .
Uh yeah! What happens when you have a completely dead battery in the boat. That wire you are sending to the boat is going to have some very heavy current unless you limit it with a regulator.

Very true!
Which is why a fuse sized to protect the WIRING is recommended near the power source.

Going to be really busy changing fuses every time he tries to charge a dead battery. I would recommend an auto resetting breaker.

Already fused on Chevy's from factory ,Might have breaker or bolt in fuse, like 60 amps on Mazda mains and if your batts are that dead you got more problems , not arguing just stating facts , been down this road before with you ! I have been wrong before but at least man enough to admit . By the way were is the Peoples Republic of Califonica ? Why you hiding out ? Jim Cook Sr. Master Technician . USAF Brat Dover Ohio Formally from Orlando Fla . Formosa , France , Georgia ,Virginia ,Wyoming, Missouri ,and Ohio try explaining that to someone when they ask you where you from ? I can stay anonymous and beat keys with my mouth to maybe be a moderator if I post that many ridiculous replies . Besides a battery that is shorted is far more dangerous .

Re: Topping Up Batteries On The Fly

You might find this interesting, especially post #2......

What appliances will not work with Modified Sine Wave inverters?
He contradicts himself a lot. He says Computers have no problems yet they do literally the same thing as a battery charger does, runs voltage through a transformer and then through a rectifier.

If the onboard charger has any decent transformer in it(unlike a wall wart) it will handle a square wave easily.

Where you have problems with inverters are things like electric motors. The harmonics generated by the square wave will kill them as a lot of heat will be generated.

By the way, always liked that electrical work you did on your boat even if it is major overkill! :)

OP has a Nissan Titan.

QUOTE If its factory wired for the brakes with huge plug it has heavy enough wiring for charging batteries .

Most brand of trucks are for towing is why I said IF . Its probably there already like Chevys portable light with a reel full of wire to see when you have problems . Needed more on my Ford .I have saved a few of them and found them handy and used in quite a few boats as most people knew they were there just never looked to see that they come out what a marvel !
