115hp 1996 60 degree looper optical ignition.

Haven't run the boat for a couple weeks. Put in plugs and a new fuel screen at the vro last night. same plugs as the old ones 78yc gapped to .030

Took it out this morning for a little before work fishing and it started right up. Problem is it tops out at 3000rpms, it will go over 3000 in neutral but I didn't push it much past that. I'm going to throw coils at it and hope it's not the stator or power pack.

I'll test the stator but it only seems to happen under load. I'm also going to run a portable fuel tank to make sure it's nothing in the fuel line. I don't think it's sucking air and the primer ball is not losing pressure.

I also disconnected both temp sensors to disable the slow system so it's not that.

Open to any ideas.

So the big question is did it do more than 3K before and what size prop do you have? The bigger the pitch on the prop, the lower the RPM at WOT.

Not the prop that's all the same and yes it did > 3000 before the plugs were changed and the problem 1st started.

Re: Tops out at 3000rmp

Had cracks in the bottom coil, replaced it, took it out, started up real good but it still tops out at 3000rpm. I suppose it could be the top coil, going to check the plugs.

I also put a portable tank on to rule out the on board tank and filter.

When I got home and put it on the muffs, took the air box off exposing the carbs. Ran nice no smoke like earlier today. I covered each carb to see if it changed the rpm, didn't really. BUT only clean clear gas came out of the carbs not gas oil mix. This is oil injected so it's no the fact that I'm on a pony tank

I had really been pumping the ball which was the next thing I was going to try but now that I'm getting no oil in the fuel mix I don't even want to start the thing.
