Looking at the ad for the Torqeedo 1003. Supposedly equivalent of a 3 HP gas outboard, weight of 30 lbs. and 8 hour run time at cruising throttle.

Anybody using one of these as a kicker for a small boat - for emergency return to port? My 15'6" aluminum skiff weighs just about 1000 lbs. with motor, passengers & gear. Looks like it would stow easily and maybe serve the kicker function.

In my case I'd also be able to use it on a smaller boat I plan to build for use in the small lake nearby.

Lots of user input from use as auxuliary power for sailing vessels. Anybody using one of these on a lightweight planing hull?

I've seen them on utube, plus on their site.
For me....to many batteries to use/take care off to make any sense as a kicker.
A small gas with self contained tank or just a regular electric TM,that uses less batteries.

It looks like it has self-contained batteries in the head--eliminating extra batteries and cables.

Here's my reservations--that's a lot of money on something woith non-standard parts. I have a garage full of cordless tools with obsolete batteries (including those where replacement batteries cost more than the tool) and a drawer full of cell phones the same way. you plunk down $1500 and where are you in 4 years 9or where are they I should say?) Meanwhile that 1972 OMC is chuggin along....
