Re: Tow 19' Boat w/Toyota? Your Tow Vehicle?
As JB said "You don't want to find out if your rig is safe from a hospital bed."<br />It does not, I repeat, DOES NOT matter how safe you drive, or how much space you give yourself to stop, accidents happen. Look at MajBach's post about the tire that wanted to be his spare. Where I launch is about 10 miles from my house. to get there is down a black-top curvy road. I came around one curve one day and there were five or six classic cars stopped on the paved shoulder. Now some of these people were smart and were way off the fog-line, others weren't. And here's some ***hole standing talking to the driver of one of the cars, on my side of the fog-line. With oncomming traffic present there wasn't much I could do but hit the brakes and pray. Somehow I managed to miss the idiot, blow the horn, stay in my lane, slow way down, avoid being rear-ended. God was my co-pilot, I'm sure. But the point is, YOU can't control other's stupidity. So safety is paramount. A smaller vehicle can't manage the forces and weight of the trailer as well as larger vehicles with larger brakes, tires (contact pattern) and stronger frames to keep it all together. Whereas I tow with a S-10 Blazer and have no problems to speak of, I'd love to have a full-size truck. I simply must balance my occassional need to tow with my daily need to commute and fuel economy (20-22 on the highway with no trailer).<br />So simply stated, safety is the first concern. And you can't possibly have a contingent for every possible situation, so you must play the balancing act. Here's one place that "Too much" is not possible.<br />Thanks for letting me rant.
