I am at the point of getting ready to put my motor back together and am still waiting for parts to get here. The company is waiting for the Piston pin washers before shipping anything. My question is, how necessary or recommended is it ro replace the piston pin washers, I haven't taken the piston pin out of the piston yet to inspect them yet.

Should I cancel the washers and get the shipment coming or wait longer for the washers.

Well if they weren't neccisary, then I guess they wouldn't make em.
IMHO when doing a rebuild, I'd replace the pistons, wrist pins, bushing washers bearings etc. IF your there why not, whats a couple of bucks compared to doing all the work, and having the motor fail?

Normally you need to replace the wrist pin retainers. However, if you are talking about the spacers on the wrist pin, between the needle bearings and the piston, I never thought they needed replacement.

I just lap them and reuse them unless they are blue from heat.

Re: Tower of Power Engine Build Question

Thanks for the replies. I found another source for the washers and I will order through them. Hopfully my other parts will be on the way soon. Using the same pistons but new rings, all bearings, pin retainers, connecting rod bolts, gaskets, seals, reeds, fuel pump kit and carb kits.
