With thanks to Wayne, the one on the right is what happens when you melt down.

woah. ive blown up plenty of two stroke motors, but that piston got destroyed. im gonna time mine at 21* this weekend and hopefully it will give me some extra rpms. my boat is currently doing about 38 mph at 4000 rpms. its gonna be fast as hell if i can get the rpms up to 5000.

Not sure if your tach is right, looks to me that it might be turning at 5K now, given your 17P prop and speed.

I am thinking this is a good time to suggest a laser tach or a tiny tach i think, as on board boat tachs are notoriously off or should i say inaccurate as heck a good percentage of time.

where could i get a hold of an accurate tach for when i link and sync this thing? if it is, in fact, doing about 5k instead of 4, that is still less than what this motor could be doing. il let you guys know what happens after i time it at 21*

I would disconnect your tach as well. Do your timing at 21. trim your boat properly and give us a speed with your 17 P prop, use a GPS not your boat speedo. If you are on a river with flow give us an upstream and a down stream reading for speed. Tiny tachs or laser tachs are good.

You do not need a tach to do the link and sync. The engine is not running at the time.

correct, not needed for link and synch, but without it after the link and synch done he will need some sort of tach to know his RPM on the water, so that he can check MPH to RPM to prop pitch to see what is really going on.

I'd be thinking that 38 mph (2000 lb. hull and 115 hp)is pretty good and not likely to go much faster. My hull was supposed to be 1050 new(so possibly 1500 now,who knows)runs 46 mph right now with a 1500 TOP/19p prop, which is probably close to the same hp as your 115 if it is crank rated.I've got a 150 V6 Merc that I will put on it if I have to,but the boat really needs a 200 hp so I'm on the hunt.
