Looks like a 85hp instead-as stated on the Hood. And not tall enough to hide an inline 6.

Agreed ... not tall enough to be a tower of power.

It is odd that it has a 140 band on the exhaust leg...

I have a very nice Mercury 140 hp inline six from the early eighties in very nice condition with a bath and a fluff she will be ready for that little honey of a project you have been wanting to get out of the gorauge. Well how about have that thing ready this coming spring and slap this baby on there. Comes with Stainless prop and i might even have a control box arround here.

Franken-Merc :faint2:

Merc of unknown condition, and indeterminate hp, shall not be going on anything coming out of my Gorouge (????) whether it's gotten a bath & a fluff (????) or not..........

Try editing & proofreading your ad. If you think you'd like to use bath & fluff in a descriptive ad for a BOAT MOTOR for sale, run it by at least 1 buddy 1st, if there's still any question, ask another........

That engine has a separate top cap. Likely it was damaged and replaced with whatever was available--an 850 top cap.

Yeah, but it sure doesn't look tall enough for a 140hp straight 6..... My 110 & 115 both look massive compared to it. May just be the odd perspective, because the lower looks really short....

Man you guys are pretty harsh. Thought it might be worth a local in need taking a look. I hope that they would not buy it from a picture. I imagine that it would be quick work to find out if it as an inline 6 or not.

Maybe I should have titled the post "motor of unknown origin currently owned by a poor speller that may or may not possess a man card is available for sale" while origin is debatable by the Iboats community, if you live in SE VA, it is for sale for $400.00. If you are in need, go by and take a look, if the outboard is in good working condition it seems like it would be a good deal whether a tower of power or not. If so, buy the thing, give it a bath and a fluff and bolt it on your boat. Then pat yourself on the back because now that its yours, you can tell people it is nuclear powered if you want to.

By the way, I have an I/O just thought the post might help someone else out.

Re: Tower of Power-SE VA Craigs list

I don't think that if someone wanted (needed?) a Merc 850 or a 140, that any of my above comments would stop someone from looking at it.....

If I really needed (wanted?) it, I might still go look at it despite my comments......

The above is no different then the other side of the CL ad: buyers ~ The shear # of & etc when you have a CL list posted & get buried by people not really interested in purchasing whatever you have for sale. They have access to you thru the ad, and rather then merely window shopping via the internet, they call or email, no show &/or have no real interest when they do..... If that frustrates you, maybe CL isn't the place to post your stuff for sale.

I work with people who struggle to communicate clearly, but they still TRY. There are few computer or internet programs that don't highlight misspelled words. In fact my new smartphone highlights syntax & format errors too. You don't have to be the best ad writer, or the best speller.

If it seemed harsh, that was not my intention. But come on, a bath & a fluff (????)... Really?

Did own a 115 hp tower, so this one seemed to look short at first glance prior to checking the numbers. The angle the pic was taken is probably the reason that makes it look shorter than it realy is.

Yep, 'course I'm not posting a for sale ad @ CL either

It's all good. But yeah, this am was a personal pet peeve overload kinda day......

psst, don't tell anyone, but I'd already seen that ad (missed the 850 vs. 140 details) & thought, hhmmmm needs a re-write on the ad, but that might be an option......

Then the Admirals voice in my head said no, NO, NO...
