Towing a 24' pontoon

I have a 24' pontoon with a tandem axle trailer with surge brakes. Dry weight of the boat is 2200. Engine is 320. Trailer is about 1200. Will my 2002 f150 supercrew truck pull it okay? It has a 4.6 and is 2 wd. Should I add a transmission cooler? Thanks

Your truck will be fine, the tranny cooler cannot hurt though, the hardest part is the braking which the trailer has so you should be fine, well within the capabilities of the F150.

Do you have a trailer tow package on the truck? That would include a tranny cooler.

Yes it will. Adding an additional tranny cooler is never a bad idea. Standard ones if fitted are generally minimal at best. Check out some RV forums for further details on that.
Just my humble opinion though.

Do you have a trailer tow package on the truck? That would include a tranny cooler.

I don't think so. I can see a small cooler in front of the radiator which I believe is for the power steering.

I just pulled a 21' pontoon I just bought with my 1/2T Silverado with a 5.3L. It weighs slightly less than the OP's boat. I could hardly tell it was back there.

That's what they told me. It is a Shorelandr and they have beefier rails than most trailers. I believe the rails are 2X6, not 2X4.

That's because all of those are likely 2014 or 2013 models, not 2002 like you have.

Look at the tow ratings for your truck in this link:
2002 Ford F150 Specifications

Assuming your truck didn't come with 3.08 rear gears and/or a manual tranny, your tow rating will be at least 6200.

Ahhh...didn't notice you had a Supercrew in you first post. Actual tow rating is 6,600 or 6900(5th wheel).

I will be towing my pontoon to Big Bear Lake in a couple weeks. When I go through San Bernardino(or San Broke-adino as I call it), I will report back if there is a crosswind.

They do catch a lot of wind, but you won't have any issues towing yours behind your F-150.
