The thread on boating insurance made me wonder how many subscribe to SeaTow or TowBoat U.S. ? There seems to be a diverseve group of people here, just wondering your thoughts on these services?

I actually have both. I was not trying to trick people into a discussion of the merits of either but if they have this type service at all? Quite a few did not have insurance so I wondered how this would play. Since we boat mostly Gulf of Mexico and Table Rock Lake Missouri, for now, long tows are possible and getting slapped with a 1,000 plus dollars tow bill or salvage claim is scary.

I have boat us and needed it this weekend. After he gave me the bill showing $1211.00 to tow me in 6 miles in a small craft advisory I was glad I had paid the $149. :) I figure I am about $1050.00 ahead of the game now. :)

My Progressive boat insurance has $2500 for towing included.

I boat on Lake of the Ozarks and been a member of BoatUS for close to 20 years. Once they added the tow boats, I opted for the tow coverage. I also have it as a part of my BoatUS hull insurance.

Towing insurance sometimes comes with your boat insurance policy. You need to check the limit, as mine has a $300 limit. I obviously have BoatUS towing as well. If you boat on a small lake, towing may not be avail or necessary.

I towed a guy about 4 miles last Sunday. He offered gas money and/or drinks, which I refused.

I have Sea Tow for the St. Pete FL area and have used them once to get towed from my slip to a repair shop. No charge.

They also cover boat trailers being towed for the same cost/coverage.

My traveller's policy includes it.

Note that for some, if you only boat in specific lakes, you can get a reduced rate for limited coverage.

Here's a question for Boat US: If you need to get towed at a place that they don't serve, will they still reimburse you? Or are you required to use one of their vendors (like AAA does for cars)? Again if you boat in only a few areas, see what coverage you have there.
