I owned a Toyota Corolla type E9 GTI 125HP tuned to 130 "140" more or less its never tested, before now I own a Toyota Carina type 2, with a 4a,ge engine almost the same as my previous car.

Im fixing the carter pan but now i also want to change the oil filter but it seems to be half the size of that of my other car should i use the oem version of the filter or sould I use a difirent (bigger higer capacity) one im not planing to tune it but i was just asking becouse its an almost 20 years old car and im planing on keeping it for at least 7 years for tax reasons.

every help would be welcome.

Re: Toyota question

when in doubt, you can't hurt anything to use OEM part. The manufacturer put it there for a reason.

Re: Toyota question

The filter in my truck seems unusually small for a V8 but I let the dealer service it.

The dealer rips me of big time and he has done things wrong with my previous car so i dont trust the guy.

And I enjoy doing thing my self.

But with small i mean real small it fits in the palm of my hand.

the other car had a filter at least 2 times bigger in length and wider to.
OK it had 15hp more original.

and the engine was not that different.

it might be better to use the oem part and replace it not every 2 years but every year.

i think i also install a K&N replacement air filter its way cheaper than replace the paper one every year.

and an other question the head sealer if you replace it is it always necessary to use new s because they are so expensive i was thinking of using them again.

I have replaced the distribution belt with a heavy duty one can it last a year longer (as it says on the package  ) or just don't try.
It doesn't save that much money but it saves time.:p

The oil filter in my v8 truck fits in the palm of my hand too. It might be a mis-understand but unless you don't drive very often and don't accumulate over 3000 miles/year. Even a once per year oil & air filter change interval is way too long. I don't have much experience in head gasket but for something that important, I wouldn't take a chance by using used gasket.

I don't drive more than 3000 miles its more likely the half of it.:D

I live in a two mile range from my work and go by bicycle

Re: Toyota question

There is nothing wrong with the oil filter that toyota specify. I know it is small but it is a proven performer. Just change it at the intervals specified in the manual.

Re: Toyota question

My wife's toyota celica GT 02' went about 17,000 miles with no oil change cause a lot of places wont do it cause it has a "skid plate". Well i went and did it myself last weekend and the oil filter is tiny. I have never seen one that small. I have seen lawn mower oil filters bigger than that. Anyways i put the new one in there and it was the same size as the fram that was in there. Im going to change it again this weekend cause i know that there is still stuff in there cause it went so long without. So ill change it tomorrow and it will had only been 7 days but i know then that i got everything out. I just got to stay ontop of it now. I thought she was getting it done at walmart every once and a whyle.
