Toyota Tail Light Color Code Help???

Hi,<br /><br />I'm wiring a Draw-Tite "Modulite" on a Toyota Camry (1993)<br /><br />Anyone know the color codes for the tail/brake/ lights? (Inside the car..not on the trailer)<br /><br />Thanks, Chuck

Take a look at the back of the globe socket. Whatever color they are there will be the same throughout the loom.

Thanks Gary in Cincinnati...I had already seen that; in fact that is where I bought the Modulite.<br /><br />But, the colors in their chart don't seem to match mine.<br /><br />If I have to, I can borrow a circuit tester from my neighbor...or maybe I'll just make one using wires soldered onto a tail lamp...<br /><br />Dunaruna...thanks...I see the wires leading up to the (back of) the light assembly...but once it enters the assembly it's impossible to see which goes where...

Try a test light. You can use it to determine which leads receive power when activating each function of your lighting system. It's not too difficult and when you use this method you KNOW you're getting it right.<br /><br />Use it the same way as the circuit tester you said you might make - but a test light is easier to use because you can just poke the tip thorugh the insulation on the wires. Without this feature you'll have to strip the insulation, then replace it when you're done. You may have to check a dozen or more wires to get it right so that's a lot of repair work. A test light is cheap and can be purchased anywhere they sell automotive supplies.

Terry have good suggestion, I normally use a voltmeter. Don't poke your finger when poking the wires, speaking from experience <br />Why are you rigging this stuff up on a Camry if I may ask?

Sure gonefishie....sure you can ask! <br /><br />The Camry's gonna be asked to tow a small inflatable the 5 miles or so to the local marina.<br /><br />It's rated for a 2000 pound trailer; believe it or not. I imagine it will do just fine. This little rig must weigh far less than that.<br /><br />As for the hook-up itself...it's done...and was a snap.<br /><br />Although..even my genuine Camry Service manual didn't seem to get the colors right...I had to poke the wires with the tester (i broke down and bought one...cost me a whopping $3.99...)<br /><br />There weren't that many wires though...it was pretty self-evident which were which once I got to poking... <br /><br />Thanks folks for reading, Chuck
