Tracker boat fuel gauge sending unit location

Does anybody know where the fuel gauge sending unit is on a 2004 Tracker targa 17, or does anybody know where I can find a diagram or manual to the boat? I have power to the fuel gauge itself . I am assuming the tank lays in the bottom of the boat but I'm not 100% sure. There is a access cover in the floor that looks like a vent. Under it, there's either a vent hose or a fuel pickup hose coming out of what I am guessing is the tank. Any help would be apprieciated.....

Follow the hoses, the tank is at the end.

The fuel lines go from the engine to a nipple that's attached to the boat next to the fill neck in which all is attached to aluminum. I'm looking for a direction to start without having to pull out every piece of paneling and flooring.

Do you have any access plates in the cockpit sole? There should be one fwd and one aft, fwd would be your fill and vent necks, aft would be your sender and pickup.

I did find the sending unit. There was a access hole back by the engine. I saw a pink wire and followed it. I can't see the sending unit but I can feel it. It reads 136 to ohms give or take a few. I actually ran out of gas over the weekend and put 10 gallons back in it. Has a 30 gallon tank. It should still have 7 or 8 gallons left in it. I did pull the wires and touched them together to see if the gauge would start moving over to the full mark, it did not.... Is the black wire just a ground wire? I was thinking of trying a different ground incase that one was bad. Is there anything else I can check?

MBF,
If you touch a known good ground the the pink wire termination, it should peg your gauge to full. Since this didn't happen, attach a ground wire to the batt term and try the same. If nothing happens again, check the pink wire for continuity between the sender and the gauge. Report back...

Turned out that the ground to the sending unit was bad. I replaced it and the gauge works great. Thanks for the advice.

Mybadford,

Where exactly did you find the sending unit on the tank? Not see the sending unit on my v-18. My issue is I must have a bad wire because when I connect the + terminal for the guage to the battery I am getting 12v to the hull. Funny thing is the guage works fine. If I leave it this way believe the current will eat my boat. Noticed a shock when in the water and checking my prop.

Thanks,
Andy

Andy,

Ground wire? Was thinking it was a + wire hitting the hull.

Traced it to the fuel gauge.

When I connect neg lead of volt meter to neg lead of battery and + lead of volt meter to hull it shows 12V.

When I disconnect the lead to the fuel guage the + charge to the hull stops.

Any help will be appreciated.

Check continuity between your batt ground post and the hull...

Re: Tracker boat fuel gauge sending unit location

Thanks. Have great continuity between your batt ground post and the hull.

I had a + voltage between the batt ground post and the hull. Appears to have gone away and does not look like it had anything to do with the fuel guage.

Still can not see the sender unit at the tank.

Expect it was a bad wire that I must have moved, guessing it will come back that is what I am worried about.

SOLUTION

Had a bad grounding issue.
Ran a new ground to the dash and my issues are resolved. My trim gauge even started working again
