Absolutely yes...
(I doubt even a proctologist could remove a coupler without getting the engine out first)

Thank you for the info! I assumed I was going to have to just wasn’t sure if there was another way! Looks like I will be down for a couple weeks so I can get this replaced.

Do I have to pull the engine out to replace engine coupler. 4.3 liter alpha one out drive
you will need to pull the drive first, then you pull the motor, then you separate the bell housing and motor to get to the coupler

to re-install, you install the new coupler
you install the flywheel housing
you install the motor
you align the motor with an alignment tool (you should have one for annual alignment checks anyway
then you re-install the drive

If you have a method to lift the engine, the job is very easy compared to a car or truck. A few hours.
