That is a true classic. Looks like all the hardware is still there. Hope someone restores it to original condition.

I see too many of these old classics go under the sawsall and get "converted" to "fishing" boats with a casting deck where the closed bow used to be, etc. A real shame when that happens.

Those old lapstrake Larsons were built like tanks. That was the boat that I grew up with. When I came of driving age I borrowed it from my folks and took it down to Newport Beach CA.

A friend and I were running around the old back bay (now a protected wildlife habitat) when we espyed a boat load of girls going the other way. Next thing I new there was a horrific shock, the larson went airborne and as it settled we were up on the gunwale ready to abandon ship.

We had run smack over the top of a 55 gallon oil drum that was being used as some kind of marker. The hull had virtually no marks on it but I bent the prop and the prop shaft on that old 40 hp Merc.

Ah, the cost of sniffing after girls.

Re: Tragedy, Larson needs a rescue!

I have no idea why we would need two boats, but my husband said we could put the Larson in the garage and work on it... but we discussed redoing it and making it look like a wonderbread stinger -- adding a touch of lime green and naming her pinto.

I could actually maneuver this one on and off the trailer by myself... and I wouldn't have to wait for lake erie to calm down - could go inland.

checking to see if we can go see it this weekend., Keep you posted.

do you think he meant that my car would be outside or his car would be outside.... hmmm.

Amen to that! :D They were built back in the day when oil was cheap and they weren't afraid to load those molds up with resin.

I'm looking to pick up another to fix it and sell it. Ohio is a bit far for me though.

steve and TD - you know i have been inspired by your work.

no response from the guy yet - but i gave him my cell number. hope it works out for the best. if not, you know another one will come along. but $150... can't beat that. and i was thinking i probably could use our 9.9 kicker on it in the inland lakes. i'm not a speed demon yet. we'll see.

Re: Tragedy, Larson needs a rescue!

that 55 on it could probably be revived. would make a good little fisher, or ski boat.
i bought this boat recently on craigslist. white hull and 50 hp merc, for $150.00. sold merc for $150.00. bought trailer for $150. put a 50 hp rude on it for $300. paint rustoleum oil base. i had the bimini. and built the seats for $120. the deck work had been done by previous owner, who came into some $$$ and bought a new boat. i have a very cool 1966 Sportcraft, Sportsman, for a total of $600.00 and my time, keep me out of trouble.
