Re: Trailer bearings getting hot, is this normal?

Incoop, I am going to tow the boat to the river again wednesday, however on the way home I will be dropping it off at the dealer, its on the way. I will be going offshore for the next month so they will have time to fix the problem for sure. I just hate the idea of my new boat being out in a boat yard uncoverd for a month but thats the way it has to be. You are right about something not being right though and as much as I dont want to accept that it is the case and has to be looked at. I am just glad my problems with this new boat are not realy a big deal and she is under waranty for a good long while! Everybody have a great fourth ! I will take my chepo cover for them to put on her to keep the sun off her though.

Good! It's almost surely something simple, but I say let them handle it. Glad you're enjoying her. Many fun days to come.

Make sure you are not backing up against the brakes going up hill with surge brakes. You need a lockout pin or electric lockout to back up uphill with surge brakes. Backing them uphill makes them think they need to come on and the brakes will try to stop the trailer.

I would suggest that you weigh each axle of the trailer. Sounds to me like you have to much weight on the rear axle. I just had to return my new boat for this. My boat is 23' and the trailer choices were 22' or 24'. They used the 24' and it made the boat sit to far back on the trailer. I returned it for the 22' and the boat fit the trailer perfectly. but we did have to slide the axles back a foot to get the weight right.

The only way you can have unequal axle weight on a tandem axle trailer is if the trailer has torsion axles. A walking beam (equalizer() suspension results in equal weight which is why they call them equalizers.
