Re: Trailer Blows Trucks Fuses - What?

UPDATE:

a) found the blown fuse, it was a 20 amp one in the passenger kick panel. Replaced that got power again at trailer.

b) bought a new 4 flat connector, and soldered that in on the boat trailer, and ran new wire from there through the tongue piece to where the lines seperate and run down both sides of the trailer, where i soldered into the existing line. But before i did that i pulled line out of every hole and found zero evidence of any issues on the wires, so i pushed them back in and finished soldering the new line to the existing runs. I then removed the common ground and sanded off the rust on the trailer, and on the eyelets of the grounds, reconnected with new self tapping screw, then painted over that to slow the rust process down on them. Plugged the trailer lights back into the truck and they work great. i then left them plugged in for ten minutes and the plug never got hot like it was before, so then i walked around the trailer shaking wires, lightly tugging on wires, etc to see if i could replicate the short but got nothing....

we'll see if anything happens again but i feel fairly confident after inspecting wires in/around the holes in the trailer frame that the wire should be in good shape throughout. Time will tell.

Re: Trailer Blows Trucks Fuses - What?

Another Update: Everything seems fine, just drove 3 hours up north and back today and did some fishing. Lights worked flawlessly, and i even checked the plug to see if it felt hot again and it didn't. Even did my ghetto test of pulling, shaking the wires and nothing happened so hopefully it's all good.

Thanks guys for the help

Re: Trailer Blows Trucks Fuses - What?

another 3 hour trip up and 3 hours back everything working great. Still would feel better if i would of found something out, otherwise just replacing the trailer plug, and fixing frayed ground wire on trailer by sanding/new bolt seems to of done the trick.

Thanks again guys
