As some of you know, Mrs Kick Back and I just returned from a trip to South Africa. Had a great time, but when we went down to the coast, I was impressed by the way they have to launch and retrieve their boats.

Thinking of all the threads here on iboats relating the woes of trailer boating here in the U.S., I thought you guys (and gals) would enjoy seeing what they are up against.

So here is a link to a video I created just for iboaters.

http://youtu.be/BnDtZnJCpA0

I hope you enjoy it, and of course, your comments are welcome.

Sea ya?

Yep, definitely puts the launch in 'Boat Launch'

Great video, do all those guys work for a launch service at the ramp area, or the charter service maybe? Looked like those boats were all charters...

There didn't seem to be a "ramp service". It seemed each boat had its own crew. A certain type of labor is cheap there, so not a problem to have plenty of help.

Most of the initial pulling to get the boat started onto the trailer was done by the vehicle itself not using the winch. They would unhook the trailer and block its wheels, then pull with the vehicle.

Wow!, That is one of the best examples I have ever seen where the NEED to do it easily overcomes the HOW...

Thanks for taking the time to video and share with us...

That was really cool...

Where there's a will there's a way! I like how they beach and re-load it too.

you know, there is something to be said for launching into waves with the bow first .... that said, I believe I prefer the way we do things over here .... :D

Some part of me REALLY wants to try that! It would work well with my jet boat, no prop hanging down... I could have the engine running as I'm headed down the ramp/shoreline/beach, and just give her the gas the instant it gets wet!!

... kinda' kills off the "power loading" debate, eh?

That's kinda' similar to launching the charter boats outta' Greyton Beach, FL. They surf launch 'em off the beach into the gulf. I've been a couple times now ... don't wanna' do it that way with my own boat, that's for sure.

Very interesting video... If you could find a calm bay or inlet, a marina down there would ton it... What a pain having to launch and retrieve those big charter boats on the beach.. Can't be good for 'em.. This proves my two theories: (a) people will do anything to go boating; and (b) boats make people do crazy things!

That was really something to watch. The one they loaded transom first had a ton of resistance on the hull truning it like they did.
Goes to show how well built a glass boat really is.
Thanks for the vid.

That is interesting. I've seen some other vids that show similar launches and retrieves, but none done as well. Usually the others ended up badly for the boat. LOL
