I am using a Tekonsha 9040 model brake control , no green light when trailer hooked up , found no bad fuzzes, I have power to unit(black wire) when I press brake pedal I have power to blue wire but no power to brake. Could I possibly have a bad unit?

Power to blue wire, but no power to brake? Isn't the blue wire the output for the brakes?
Sounds more like a problem in your truck or trailer wires. Have you checked power at the connector at the back of the truck?

1) Has that controller or any other controller ever worked with your truck?
2) If not - what kind of truck is it?

Re: trailer brake control

If you are using the proper harness for your vehicle and you have power at the wires at the unit, are you getting power at the trailer and if so are you getting the proper voltage? It's possible somewhere on the way back to the brakes something is getting shorted or lost.

edit: if u suspect the brakes to be the issue u can test them

Well, if you have power out the blue wire then it isn't the controller.

Yep that's why you have to follow along and see where the chain stops, the controller is sending the power out.

Re: trailer brake control

You can verify the trailer using a battery charger or if the trailer is fitted with an emergency coupler disconnect and battery, pull the disconnect pin and see if the brakes engage. Otherwise, connect the charger to the brake pin and ground. If the brakes engage the trailer is fine. But as others have indicated, if you have power on the brake wire at the connector on the truck, the controller is fine. If you have power on that wire at the controller but not the connector, the wiring between the two has a problem. Follow the juice. When you lose it you found the problem.

Re: trailer brake control

Yep figured that would do it. Hope they didn't charge you (or much) that would have been an easy fix at home. Enjoy it!
