trailer brake lights question-they're not working

Hey all, <br /> I just put a new set of lights on the back of my boat trailer. Both lights turn on, both right and left turn signals work, but the problem I'm having is that when I hit my brakes, both trailer lights turn off. Anybody have any ideas--I'm pretty sure I wired everything correctly-thanks for any imput

The first place I always look with trailer light issues is the grounds. Make sure they are clean and tight. You should have 3.........one coming from the connector where you hook up to the vehicle, and one at each of the tail lights. I like to use a little vaseline on the grounds. I would start with that and go troubleshooting from there. Don't forget that you can't ground through paint......

Ground problem for certain. The brake impulse is going back through the running light circuit causing your issue. Make sure the trailer is grounded to the truck and NOT through the ball hitch. You need a ground from the truck through the plug to the trailer. Grounds account for 99% of all trailer lighting issues. You are pretty sure you did it right but apparently something is wrong. It gets aggravating to go back and redo it but it's what needs to be done. <br /><br />UFM82

Ayuh,........<br /><br />For Testing purposes,...... <br />Try hooking your Booster Cables between the Frame of the Tow Unit,+ the Frame of the Trailer.......<br /><br />I Bet your lights Will Work,......

Thanks guys for the help--I actually went and figured it out immediately after I posted this--My ground was'nt connected to anything near the front of the trailer.
