Just wondering, does anybody know if a trailer that does not have brakes currently can have them retrofitted?
Thanks,
Jason

Re: trailer brakes

If the axle has a flat plate behind the wheel with four holes in it, yes. That plate is what the brakes bolt to. If the axle doesn't have that plate, you can have them welded on but it takes a jig in order to do it right. Otherwise it's necessary to replace the axle.

You might even find the cost of an axle with brakes to be close to just the retro fitted brakes when you look around.

That depends on the capacity of the axle. Usually a 2000 LB axle will not have what is called a brake flange for the brake. I would suggest that you buy a new axle with brake flange installed by the axle manufacturer so you can be sure that the brake flange is welded right.
