Trailer Fenders - Help Needed - Splash Guard?

I have a single axle trailer. On the backside of the fenders are a carpeted wooden piece. I guess you would consider it a splash guard? Not really sure of the name. Any way mine are rotten and starting to fall apart. Where do I purchase new ones? If I cant purchase them is there a pattern out there could follow to make new ones? Should I stick with wood or change to something more water resistent? Please advise.

Sounds like a step to me. At least that's what they were on the bass boat trailer I used to have. You should be able to make a pattern for the replacements using the outline of the metal to which they attach. Plywood with several coats of polyurethane, then carpeting, should be fine. Or you could use anti-skid paint instead of carpet.

On the backside of my fenders is a galvanized "step". A wooden something is probably an after market add-on. A welded on step will probably make your boating more painless.

I think he's refering to the inner side of the fender between the fender and the boat. Just do what "NYBo" said same concept.

Re-reading the original post, I think you may be right. Some plexiglass might also do the trick if that's what it is.

yes, its on the inner side of the wheel fender. Its not a step. Its about 10 years old and the wood it starting to rot and break away. I didnt know if it had a name or if I could buy pre-made or maybe a pattern ( kinda like the bunks do ) . Guess I can make my own. I never thought of making it from plexiglass but I guess thats an option too, just need to determine how to get the carpet to stay. I dont know which adhesive to use.

Why not ditch the carpet and paint the plexi or plywood?

guess I could do that, any suggestions on what paint to use? Not sure but I think plexiglass would be more than plywood.

Do the wood and carpet the carpet is there to protect the hull when launching and loading. If it lasted ten years that means you will be good to go for another ten years.....

Thinking back again to my old bass boat trailer, MRS is absolutely right. Carpet that side of the plywood to protect the hull.

Or some 5/4 treated deck boards.
Carpet or use bunk slick strips to keep boat from getting hurt.
