Re: Trailer floats....

Great idea Dj. I was starting to think this forum was just gonna make jokes. Im not an idiot I see the boat is too big but im also not rich and I was just looking for some ideas to help the trailer not float. I just got the boat and haven't even had time to work on anything. So new bunks which I planned on doing and a tongue extension should even things out.
Thanks
Travis

Maybe some are making jokes but the correct message is there. It becomes dangerous at times when you tow with the wrong trailer.

yeah i kinda resent that.... ALOT of us gave you real good advice... I didn't make any jokes at all... To mod that trailer is NOT the way to save money.... chop off those bunks and sell your alum jetski trailer for tripple what you will have to spend on a steel boat trailer... then put the remaining dough in your pocket for gas n bait for the whole summer

I second that... That trailer not being made of tube is probably not enough trailer for the weight and size of the boat. I have bought steel trailers for boats for as little as $50 on occasion. Not saying those were perfect trailers but still...

As far as weight, that looks like a medium size PWC trailer, those are usually rated up to at least 500-700 pounds. There is no way that boat is that heavy...

Ok so what do you think the trailer is worth? It has new tires. Good leaf springs. New coupler and lights and wiring. Not sure what price range I'm in but I don't think I could get triple what a good steel trailer goes for. Around here a good trailer for a16ft boat range anywhere from 400-1000.

well the trailer you have is for a 8-10' boat... I have bought single axle trailers for anywhere from $50 to $175 for up to 16' boats... the key is agressive shopping... check c/l 3-4 times a day and jump when you see it.
Ask every person that you have occasion to talk boats with if they know of a good deal on a trailer. I could trim those bunks down and shine up the frame and easily get $350 out of an alum jetski trailer.

You would likely need to put some paint, tires, and lights on you new one but you should still have enough left over to afford a little crow ;)

This place is crawling with different types of people. We have the "better than yous" the "Saturday night stand ups" the "I have NO ideas, but Im gonna explain somethings", but most importantly there are some experts on here.

Unfortunately you really just have to post, and try not to get kicked off for "Name Calling" when the bozos show up. Be patient and someone with some sense will show up, and make you glad you posted again.

I myself was going to say with an angle like that. just park next to the water and unhook, and it should slide itself right in, but I think you've got enough slack already. IMO your best bet is make sure the trailer has a way to flood so it won't float, Maybe even attach a spare tire to where the trash can is to add some weight to the front.

Don't feel bad tho, my problem is the exact opposite. You can't even lift my tongue its so front heavy, that's why I'm here. Either way, best of luck!
