trailer jacks instead of blocks

I was thinking the other day that I could install some heavy duty trailer jacks to my trailer on the frame behind the axle and use them for storage instead of blocks. Any comments? good idea, bad idea?

That's not a bad idea at all. Get the ones with feet on the bottom to give a solid platform to sit on without worrying about the boat rolling away.
Then remember to take them off in the spring so you don't collect water in them or unwanted weeds at the ramp.

That should work but it won't be as stable as blocks and will cost a lot more. We're talking wood blocks, not cinderblocks, right?

Cinder blocks are way strong if they are used correctly. Can't use them with the flat panels on top and bottom or you run the risk of them collapsing. Stand them on "edge" and put a piece of flat stock on top of them.

Now Just think if you could keep them on all the time so if you had a flat on the road it would make changing tires a lot less stressful.

cost would be more. would there be too much pressure on the frame? I could see the jacks would not be as stable given the small footprint. Was looking at the jacks w/o the wheels.

I'm not talking about total removal of the tires from the ground. Just enough pressure to reduce flat spotting, so the stability would be greatly increased. Yeah, the cost would go up but by what $100, maybe.

Just a thought, but wouldn't it be easier (and cheaper) to use a pair of jack stands?

Jack stands would work fine as long as they are on concrete or wooden blocks. They will sink into asphalt or dirt/gravel over time.

I never bothered to jack my trailer up and if I ever got "flat spots", they went away after a few miles.

A better plan might be to just take the rig for a spin around the block every month or so, then park it again.

For winter storage, I just overinflate the tires to 60psi. Fights flat spotting pretty well and is free.

DO NOT drive with them at 60psi though.
