Hello gents,

I plan to replace the 2 rear running/brake/signal light units on my trailer. I'd like to install some LED units. My trailer has numerous "other" lights (marker, crossmember, fender, etc) that I would like to be able to keep. Can I just wire the new LEDs into the existing wiring, or is there some kind of voltage controller that will only allow LED OR incandescent to be used at the same time? I haven't been to the store yet to read the packaging, but figured I'd see what the experts had to say before I made the trip. Thanks!

....no worries. Mix and match to your heart's content. Besides, what kinda lights does your tow vehicle have!?!?!?
Note some of the over-the-road rigs: you'll see all kinds of combinations of lights, especially on the private haulers that have been pimped.
FWIW....Ed in 'ol Virginny:)

Just a thought... once the tail light units are paid for, it doesn't cost much more to go ahead and do all the others too. I bought all mine direct from Optronics and couldn't be happier. They also have a few that aren't on their web site - so they have an LED equivalent for pretty much everything that might be on your trailer.

This is actually good info all around. My boat trailer has LEDs and was contemplating upgrading my utility trailer to LED lighting. The Mrs is getting an updated Christmas list this year!!!

I personally like the LEDS much better. They're brighter, longer lasting too. It's why so many semi trailers use them.;)

Ditto to Justchange. I like LEDS also for their instant on, instant off brake lights. They're just a nanosecond or two quicker than incandescents, but oh what a difference. -Ken

Yep, but my reaction time is still 5 or 6 seconds , and getting longer as I age. :)
Heck, your probably just riding the brakes anyway, why should I slow down?
