all of the light functions work except for the right blinker/brake. I am 100% sure it is not a ground issue. I have a 2001 explorer sport trac and just had the light connector checked out and everything works. Any ideas?

ps I leave for vacation sat. afternoon!

thanks,
Matt

Re: trailer light problem

**update**

I tried my dad's jeep, and when the headlights are on the right blinker stops. when the headlights are off the right blinker works. I have the white wire grounded 3 places on my trailer 1. at the tongue 2. right past the tilt feature 3. directly on the metal frame of the light. I am now stumped and think it's my truck or the green wire?

this sucks.

first i'll state th ebvious..bulb? then i would suggets looking at the connector between the boa t and tow vehicle. here's another idea, try puting power to the cable for that light. a little investigation can go a long way with wiring. it's usually pretty smple to figure out....deductive reasoning

Usually if only one function does not work, it's either the vehicles connector or a blown fuse. You have a seperate fuse for left turn, right turn, and running lights. But you said the vehicle checks out. Then it's either the trailer connector, burned out bulb, or broken wire. I'm surprised the place that checked your vehicles connector didn't check for the obvious on your trailer. Hope you have it fixed. Otherwise just take all left turns! LOL! Have a great week end.

One other thing...............if you have bolt on trailer lights, try loosening and tightening then a couple times. Those light studs are the trailer ground. If they're loose, tighten 'em up..............problem solved! Hopefully. Good luck.

Re: trailer light problem

I didn't take my trailer when I got my truck checked out. I already put brand new bulbs in. What I think they did when they checked my truck was just put a little light connector/checker on the light connector and all the lights light up, so they called it good.

It's dark here so I'll have to check the integrity of the green wire in the morning.

thanks for the replies so far!

If all else fails, redneck it! Splice into the green trailer connector wire, cable tie some wire along the frame back to your tail light. Get the light working and hit the water. The week end is upon us! You can fix it right after work next week.

I agree, i beleive it is a bad ground. i would try running a seprate ground to the light ground and check again.

Re: trailer light problem

OK here is my 2 cents worth, I have a 2004 ford explorer, when i hooked up my boat to it my right turn signal was not working on the trailer, everything else worked just fine. i tested the plug from the vehicle and found that when the right signal was on there was no power to the connector, so i had to find the wire coming from the turn signal lamp on the vehicle and run a seprate wire from the lamp to the connector and that solved the problem. I hope this helps and makes sense at the same time.

Good Luck and happy boating

First question: are you going through a converter? (i.e. 5-wire car to 4-wire standard trailer)

I just went through this exact same thing yesterday; right turn signal only worked when stop light circuit on... after a lot of tracing and troubleshooting, I discovered that my Valley Industries #52222 5W to 4W converter had GONE BAD! I couldn't believe it!

I ran to the auto parts store and picked up a "Hoppy" converter, installed it, and everything is working perfect again. Crazy!

If not using a converter, please disregard. ;)

Good Luck,
DM
