Trailer lights and Bracket mounted outboards

Anyone know how far back the engine can be from the tail lights? The skeg on my motor is eight feet back from the trailer lights on my Wellcraft,the Grady White is seven feet back.I'm thinking of mounting a flashing strobe on the cavitation plate that is removable.How far back are your lights?

I believe in Illinois the permitted overhang is 4 feet. Don't know about elsewhere. You are also supposed to have a red flag on the prop, but nobody does.

buy one of those $10.00 led bicycle tail lights, mount it on the lower rear cowl.

I would say regardless of the law I would want to put something on that!
