I got an old trailer thrown in with a deal on a boat i bought a while back....papers with the boat, but not with the trailer....already have one , but i figured instead of swapping boats back and forth on the one registered trailer i'd try to register the trailer w/out papers as a homemade. I live in ct, does anyone know anything about doing this.....the trailer will have a an aluminum boat on it, about 1500 lbs max....so i know the trailer should'nt need brakes or anything....

Re: trailer registration

contact the tag agency, by phone. then get what you need. in Florida you either need previous registration, or have the trailer weighed at a public scale. Florida does not title boat trailers.

Re: trailer registration

Thats not a bad idea TD, but i cant find any tag, numbers, or anything like that on the trailer at all...theres a good chance that it was homemade by someone...just not me, lol

Here in Texas, you just estimate it's loaded road weight, take your bill of sale down to the county tax office and they register it as homemade. Very simple process...need to check regs/rules in your state though.

Re: trailer registration

Call your locally license plate agency like Tash said.. Im not sure about CT, but in TN you dont have to register your boat if you don't take it out of the state. Don't have to have a plate or anything... But you can also register it as home built and they will have someone inspect it, make sure its road worthy, and they will issue a SN for it...

Good luck

If you check out www.dmv.org that maybe of some help
