Hello, I have purchased a used 20 Proline Center Console with 150 Motor. It sits on a Dual Axle Trailer with bad tires.

The tires on there now say ST78-B13 and are 5 lug.

Question, I am looking to replace with new tires, and am confused by all of the different numbers, ratings, classifications.

What should I be looking for to replace these tires/wheels?

Any help is appreciated

Re: Trailer Tires Advice

ST is for "Special Trailer" or Trailer Use Only, 78 is Aspect Ratio, B (I believe) is Bias Ply and 13 is Diameter. Basically replace with ST 78 X 13 and youll be fine.

The B78-13 numbering has not been used in years. You have ST or special trailer tires and they are indeed bias ply. ST175/80D-13
replaces the STB78 13 in bias ply. ST175/80R-13 is the radial tire equivalent. Any tire shop can help you with selecting the proper load rating or you can check the sidewall of the tire for load rating.

i run a class "C" rated tire on all my trailers, except the chris craft "D". it may be overkill, but i do a lot of interstate towing.

What's the difference between the LT (light truck) and ST (Specialty Trailer) ?

The difference is mostly in the sidewalls. LT (light truck) and (P) passenger car tires do not do well on trailers.

ST (trailer) tires have stiffer sidewalls. Trailers put extra heavy loads on sidewalls, especially multi axle trailers. The ST tires are worth it.

Use trailer tires, you may get lucky ith vehicle tires but like the above post the trailer tires have stronger side walls. My only suggestion is spend the money and get radials and get them balanced. You will be better off if you put a lot of highway miles on.

Right on the money.

I will agree with that 100%, with the exception of the sweeping generalization of LT tires. While that statement may be correct with smaller diameter tires, it does not apply to larger diameter tires (say for example on a horse trailer). All of my horse trailers came with and still run 16" 10-ply LT tires...
