I've heard about the tongue extension before - but when I do a quick search on google, it gives me hitch extenders, not anything for the tongue. Can anyone point me to a good resource for this? How much would it cost?

Call around to all the welding shops. I'm certain a good fabicator can fix you up fairly cheaply. Most light trailers use 2X2" square tube which is very common and easily obtained. I'd bet under $50,00
