I have an older pontoon boat trailer that does not display a VIN number. I bought it in Ohio and need to register it in Pennsylvania. However Pennsylvania requires a VIN number to complete a registration. How can I get a VIN number? I believe that the make of the trailer is Playbouy.

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,..... What does the paper work that came with the trailer say,..??

If you've got No paper trail, you've pretty much got a pile of steel, 'n not a trailer,.....

How tough is goin' to a "Homemade" registration in Pa,..??

Thats a great Idea. Give it your own Number and call it home made, you may have to get some thing from a Mechanic.
Thats how it is in Ontario here.

Not that easy anymore in Pennsylvania. See; http://www.dot.state.pa.us/public/dvspubsforms/BMV/BMV Fact Sheets/fs-spconstveh.pdf

Many years ago I built a trailer from a set of axles I had from a wrecked trailer and all the rest welded up from scratch. I asked one of my state trooper friends how I was to register it since I knew he was a school bus inspector and accident reconstruction specialist. He asked me if the holes for fastening the license plates from the old trailer matched the ones on the new trailer. Problem solved. Things have changed in forty some years.

I would call your local Fish & Boat Commission and ask them.
