Re: Trailer wiring issue cant seem to diagnose

Pictures are better than video for forum viewers. I watched it 3 times and could not follow it all.
Before you do anything else clean the connection on your van chassis where that white wire connects. That's your ground for your trailer and while I hope it is your problem, I don't think it is your problem but it could be.
There are several different ways these converters are built and plugged into the auto system. Some have 5 wires in and 4 wires out. This style use the vehicle ground. Since you have a big old ground wire right there you may have the type that uses 4 wires in and 4 wires out. Either way a bit of magic takes place inside the unit as the turn signals are passed to the brake lite wire. An electronic failure of an internal component usually takes out at least part of the trailer system. A third PITA way adds a plug behind the tail light assembly, usually with a single green wire running to the passenger side to pick up the right turn signal. In this last case the converter may be hidden behind the truck tail lights. Reese and Curt make this style.
Start at the 4 way laying on your bumper and follow it back until you come to a connection with 5 wires in and 4 wires out or 4 wires in and 3 wires out with that ground added to the to the 4 way. The wires into the conversion box may be any color. The wires to the 4 way connector will be brown, green, white and yellow.
On a Nissan the wire in colors are the same as the out with a red one for brakes added to the mix. They do serve a different purpose on the out as the brake and turn lights are combined.
Why we don't do what the Aussies do and have 4 bulb trailer lights I can't explain.
