Trailer Wiring

After pulling a burned out & corroded tail light off the trailer I noticed that the green wire inside the steel frame had about 6 inches of the insulation worn off exposing bare wires. It appears that the wire has been rubbing on the inside of the steel frame. I am going to install a new set of LED lights and replace the wiring harness. My question is this I want to keep the wires from rubbing and was thinking of running them through an old section of garden hose to protect the wires. Do you think there would be any problems doing this ?

Using a garden hose won't hurt anything, but I think you'll be much happier with the results if you spend a couple of bucks on some wire mold. There are several kinds available at Wally World, Pep Boys, Home Depot, etc. and they don't cost much. Honestly though, if the wire is run correctly you shouldn't need to encase it in anything. If you are unfamiliar with the term "wire mold" it is simply the plastic tubing that is slit so you can slip it over wires for protection. It is available in the electrical dept of most home and auto stores.

This is my first little post, but i've done truck and trailer repair for years along with other tid bits.... I would recomend going to trailer place and getting wire already in insulation just like an extinsion cord it is the best way to go, really for water proof things, the less splices the better for corrosion!!
