Trailerable covers, non-custom, 22-ft cuddy, thoughts? Recommendations?

I need a new cover for my Sportcraft 230 fisherman, cuddy. 22'2" LOA. And I see several options online and at West Marine describe themselves as trailerable and designed for a 21-23' cuddy.

Any thoughts on those? Other brands? Are they REALLY trailerable? Or just "trailerable"? Is there a secret to your success? Appreciate any and all advice! Is there conventional wisdom besides custom canvas work? Tips & tricks?

Thanks in advance from a greenhorn!

From personal experience, their is no cover that is really trailerable. They usually come loose and beat themselves and the boat to death

I've got one on my 20'aluminum fish n ski. Works fine at moderate speeds, it off the shelf and fits pretty good. I would definitely look at the straps and add a few more if trailering at high speeds. My cover is really waterproof as my boat sits outside on my trailer at the Marina.

I make boat covers and I can make them trailerable. You need a lot of reinforcements at all the rub points and there is no way an off the shelf cover will have that.

When I trailer, I only use a snap on cover. I only use my full cover when storing the boat.

The OP is asking about generic boat covers, they rarely fit that well and aren't built like an expensive custom made one.

I have had custom covers, and semi-custom covers. None hold up to 70mph highway speeds. Usually a snap will let loose, it start s flapping and in a short time all is done.

Even covers with straps tend to let loose, especially if the cover catches a bit of air under it.

Best luck I have had is towing with cover off

OP look at some of the Westland covers that iboats sells. I had one on my last boat a d it towed fine. Not as nice as the one on my current boat, but for $350 it was a decent cover.

I totally agree. In a few hours down the interstate at 75 you will wish you didn't have it covered.

It only takes a couple of hiway mles with the fabric flogging to "buff" a shiny gelcoat finish to a dull one. Happens all the time but people don't post it.

Over many years of boating I have had several custom fit boat covers and have had no issues towing at highway speeds. Off the shelf covers are trailerable but I consider them a oneway cover....You only get to tow with them once. Had my last custom cover for 4 years, towed expressway every weekend during boating season without any problems. It was an expensive cover so you get what you pay for!!

Custom is the way to go. We towed a 23 Chris Craft with a custom mooring cover. Never had a problem.
