Re: Trailering with or without cover?

I tow with a cockpit/windshield cover. It's custom and in 10,000 miles over the last 10 years hasn't come loose once. No way I'd tow without it, too much junk blowing in or out. It looks pretty much the same at 65 mph as it does sitting still. Mine works just fine.

Depends where you are towing and what is in the boat that could fly out or be lifted.

With an open utility boat like your SSV, there is little storage space. So you either remove everything from the boat, or risk losing it on the highway, or when parked.

Our family, several other relatives, and several friends, almost always tow WITH a cover on our utility boats.

We use them for fishing and we haul our camping gear inside them.

Keeps the dust, dirt, and rain out, and secures item from loss.

I don't usually cover my boats with windshields, unless I need to.

The key is to buy a well fitting cover, not necessarily an expensive cover.
Secure it and make it snug, no flapping material.

I still have the canvas cover that my father bought in 1962, for our 12' boat.

I really like the Stearns ORION cover by Classic Accessories. They are getting hard to find, I think they are discontinued.
Sportsmans guide still has them in stock, at half price.

I have 3, one for my 16' utility, one for my 16' with walk-thru windshield, and one for my new 18' with walk-thru windshield.

These covers are true to size. If your boat is 16'. the 16' cover will fit. If your boat is 16' 3", it won't fit.
It has a cinch strap with cam buckle in the hem. Not a baggy elastic hem.
A cover bow or 2 will also help to tighten up the cover, and provide an arch to aid in water drainage.
