Re: tranducer mounting 101

If stepped hull you are talking about is where the back of the transom is higher in the water than the bottom where the drain plug is then it will not work on the transom.

You either have to mount on the lower stepp or bottom and mount inside. Most of the bass boat that have stepped hull have an area where you can mount the transducer inside the hull and shoot thru the hull. You will get about a 10 percent loss but usually the best choice.

The lower stepp or bottom with the drain plug and Water pickup creats so much air and turblance in the water that transducer just not work on the transom. At high speed the transom may not even be in the water.

Call your boat manufacture and ask it they have a picture of best place to mount a transducer. I believe most Bass boats will want to help you out for no charge.

Call a dealer that sell Stratos Or go to one of the bass tournaments weight ins and you will see plenty of boat like yours. Some times Factory reps for lowrance will be there and they will help you even if it is not a lowrance.

Also contestants like to talk about their rigs and how they set it up. You can also see their set up when they drive by for their weigh in.
However don't ask them what lure they used and what area they fished.

Anyway your transducer to work at speed has to be in clean water coming off the hull.

Do a goggle search for transducer mounting on a stepped hull and you will see several pictures. I found several but could not figure how to post from PDF with out posting the whole thing.

Airmar transducers might be able to help. Look at the model P79 and see if that offers a better solution. I mounted one inside because I have a cluttered transom and no other place to mount a transducer.
