Transducer hole repair in my transom!

I have a hole in my transom left from the P.O. where he ran a transducer cable through the transom below the water line.
The actual hole is about 5/8"-3/4", the hull thickness is about 3/8" the hole is backed by my new transom and I want to repair it and do it right seeing as its at or below the water line.

That's a dandy! I guess you should read the sticky's in this forum at the top,it will require grinding,feathering the edges and building up with layers of glass.Then the gel coat lesson begins.
You installed a new transom? Then why did ya drill the new wood? Or is it that ya are just getting started.

Grub, that was before I replaced the transom, the hole in the hull is still there but the transom is solid.

before you bedded in the new transom wood was the right time to glass over the hole. the fact that there is no CSM over the hole tells me you either glassed around the hole prior to bedding in the new transom wood, or you did not bed in the new transom wood.

I'm confused! R U saying this pic was taken before you replace the transom? Did you tape over this hole during installation of the new transom so the PB filled this hole and it's smooth and level with the existing transom skin now? Like I said, I'm confused and don't understand the question. All the previous holes in the skin should have been filled with PB ooze from the transom installation.

So maybe I screwed up then because I have already installed the new transome and didnt glass the inside of the hole, but I did glass the hull to transome side of the transom with CSM.

So you did NOT bed in the transom to the existing fiberglass with PB?

If that is the case, you may want to start over as your transom wood is not connected to the hull other than at the edge.

The pic is prior to installing the new transom, the P.O had a wooden plug in the hole, before I installed the new transom I popped the plug out. I do have Pl oozing out the hole now and yes my transom is fully attached to the hull. The pic is prior to old transom removal, the P.O had a cover plate over the hole attached with screws and 4200/5200 Im not sure which. The hole now is just hull deep 3/8" and clean to the back of the transom.

Ill take a new pic tomorrow when I get home and post it! I also have pl glue oozing out all the holes in the hull and around the key hole.

Then since you did not grind and fair the back side, you will be grinding and fairing the outside. grind and fair back about 3" all the way around the hole, start with a small piece of glass, then a larger one, and yet a larger one. building up in layers.

when you get to a near flush surface, fill imperfections in with PB or fairing compound, sand smooth, apply 3 layers of gel, put PVA or saran wrap over the last layer to get it to cure. from there, block sand and buff. you have two colors of gel, so you may have to do one first, then the other.

or you can get a 2 x 3" piece of stainless steel, drill 4 corner holes, polish and buff it (or sand with 200 grit).
fill the remainder of your hole up with 5200. put the cover over the hole, seal the cover and screws with 5200.

I see,as others have said,grind and glass/gel.....
