I have a Ranger 520VX. It has a Garmin 168 GPS on it with the transducer mounted in the bilge area. I want to put a depth and temp transducer on it. Will the new transducer work in the bilge area, or will I HAVE to mount it on the hull. If on the hull, where is the best location for this boat. You guys have helped me in the past, I'm hoping for some help here. Thanks!

Re: Transducer Location

Wes - I don't think I read this right - did you say that the transducer (actually an antenna for a GPS) is mounted in the bilge????????

Transducers for depth finders are usually mounted low on the outside of the transom per the manufacturers instructions or may be mounted in the bilge for some hulls. If mounted in the bilge you may get reduced sensitivity as the signal must go through the hull material.

Re: Transducer Location

The antennae is mounted on the outside, by the console. The unit also is a depth finder, and will accept a temp transducer. Right now, the depth reads great through the hull. My main question really has to do with the temperature reading capability. Will it read accurately enough off of the bottom of the hull, or should it be in the water? If in the water, where is the best place to put it on the bottom of a 520? Sorry for any confusion...
