transducer mystery -- no depth finder

Hello all, I've got a through-hull transducer on the bottom of my boat, but the previous owner took the depth finder with him. I didn't ask him the type/brand he had and he's gone now (literally) so I'm stuck with sort of a mystery transducer with no markings or anything. Anyone know if transducers are "standard" and cabable of being mixed-and-matched with depth finders? Thanks for your input. Peter

Examine every inch of the cable, find a label, or maybe white markings on the cable. You need to know, as a minum, the kilohertz. Then go to "Airmar" or "Radarsonics" website, they are the 2 manufacturers of transducers. Also, get a digital picture of the below the boat transducer part and the connector itself. The shape, and the number of pins in the connector helps. Send the pics and an email to these sites. They will get back to you. Unfortunately I had one narrowed down as being a Si-Tex, but couldnt find the KHz #, till I broke the wire off removing the ducer, then when I was snaking the wire out from behind the dash, there was a shrink tube over the cable with 120 Khz written on it. Could have bought the Profish II and not had to mess with ducer stuff....... learned a whole bunch though...

Alright, will do. Fortunately I've got the boat torn apart so I am able to get at everything really easily . . .

Take a couple of pictures of the connector on the transducer cable and post them. Someone will at least identify the manufacturer of the locator. May not be able to tell which model though.
