Transducer Placement For a Depth Finder

Guys, help me here. I am about to install my first depth finder. My boat has the aluminum bracket at the back of the pontoon on the right side and that is where I plan to put the transducer. The plastic bracket supplied to mount the transducer allows for some up/down adjustment when mounting. My question is about how deep or shallow the transducer needs to be. Is the transducer supposed to be at about the level of the bottom of the pontoon? How deep should the transducer be in the water when the boat is moving?
Thanks for your help.

On a pontoon boat, adjustment of your high speed or imaging transducers are not critical at all. For either, and for the best sounding possible, simply make sure they are in direct unobstructed contact with the water. There is just not much else you can do with a moving pontoon.

The above picture is just how mine looks but dont count on the adjustment to raise or lower your transducer that adjusyment is only for making it level with the bottom of your hull or toon. Mine is actualy a little low but works just fine even though it makes a funny roostertail on the left side of the boat.
