I have a Furuno 582 fish finder with a thru hull transducer located in the reccomended position. When I run at cruise speed or higher the finder seems to get very cluttered and stops reading depth. I use auto mode. It also stops reading the depth when it gets below 5 ft deep at any speed. Any ideas?

Re: Transducer question

sounds like your boat may be planing too high to keep water in the transducer area or your hull is either too thick or has metal present....double check !!

Re: Transducer question

Cggcap
Pretty common to pick up a lot more noise when running at planeing speeds. Try turning down the sensitivity even in auto mode. Also if your units has a surface clutter control turn it up. I do not know your unit but many older units had trouble in shallow water. Again try turning down sensitivity.

I not sure if you are useing a shoot thru hull transducer or a thru hull transducer. If it is a shoot thru hull make sure the epoxy did not come loose. The thru hull transducer all you can do is change sensitivity and surface clutter controlls and see if it helps. Tunn the sensitivy down until the screen is less than 30 percent black.
