Can someone explain to me the function of the transfer port on an outboard engine? Upon breaking a power head down the other day (to see how she ticks!), I noticed that it seems that exhaust gasses would be vented into the port, but for what reason, and where do those gasses eventually go?

Re: transfer port

The transfer ports are for temporary fuel storage. The fuel is transferred from the crank into the transfer port and from there it is transferred to the cylinder when it is time for the next charge.
