Transferring engine and outdrive

Hey guys,
I just uncovered massive rot in the floor and stringers of my bow rider. The idea of gutting it all and rebuilding doesn't thrill me but my 3.0 140 mercruiser and alpha 1 drive still work well. I found a boat on CL that has no motor or drive but just had all stringers floor and glass redone.

Can someone explain what would have to be done to put my engine and drive into this boat? The other boat was originally set up with the same type of engine and drive.

Thanks!

Re: Transferring engine and outdrive

I'll just look into my crystal ball, and use my Ouija board and let you know what I see....

Yeah, that went well... You haven't told us what engine, drive and transom model was in the boat you bought.... Heck, you haven't even given us a photo!!!

For a simple answer... Just try and bolt it in and see where (if) it doesn't fit... Adjust accordingly...

Outer transom assy on first... Then inner transom plate, then engine, then drive....

Chris........

Re: Transferring engine and outdrive

My current boat is a 1983 Four Winns 170 Marquise with a mercruiser transom assembly serial of 6394656. The boat I'm looking at is a 1996 Bayliner 17.5', but I don't have it, just considering. I'm trying to figure out the legitimacy of this sort of switch. Chris, I was guessing that a pic of my current setup wouldn't tell much considering I don't have the other boat. If you can tell much from pics of it, here's the CL listing 1996 Bayliner 1750 Fresh Paint, Needs Motor and Drive. My engine serial is 6338565 and outdrive serial is 6368518. If there's more info that would be helpful, I'm happy to provide it! Thanks!

Ayuh,... The ad says it had a 3.0l motor, yet the motor mounts are for a V-motor,....

Also, the drive that ya can buy for extra cash is for a V8,...

But,... Ya, yer Complete driveline will bolt right in, you'll just have to fab up the front motor mountin' block,...

That sounds like exactly what I was hoping for. What sorts of things should be purchased new when making this switch? I'm guessing gimbal bearing, but what else?

Awesome. Thanks guys! Anyone want to weigh in on what you would offer the guy for his hull?

Next to nothing...in reality your doing him a favor taking it....what is he going to do with a hull with no motor or drive, he would have to pay to have it hauled away and disposed of.

But do make sure you get proper ownership transfer on the Hull Number for your area...would be a shame to put all the work in and then find out it doesn't belong to you.

Re: Transferring engine and outdrive

I'm getting this boat this weekend and tackling the engine swap. The alignment tool comes with the boat, but I've never used one before. Can someone please give me a run down on how to correctly install the engine and drive?
