The back of the near side buffed out.

I would have finished buffing out the whole area but my buffer is having issues. I have to take it in and get it repaired today. It stops every few seconds for no reason. I also need more compound.
I did some sanding on the gunwales and broke thru in a spot already so I think tonight I may respray them right off that will leave a smoother surface to start sanding and will build it up a bit thicker.

Re: transom and floor replacement

i would be done but I broke thru to the white, then resprayed areas. Tonight I sanded and found the spots I sprayed dont match in color. One side is great but the other I am going to respray completely tomorrow night. I dont know if it is because I sprayed it thin or what but I will do the whole side alot thicker and will do the entire side so if it doesnt match it wont be as noticable and spots all down the side of it. Frustrating but I want it to look as good as I can get it and I would rather spend the extra time now than regret not fixing it later.

I got 1 side sanded to 2000 grit and it looks great. I also resprayed the other side and the transom. Tomorrow night it is back to sanding. I think the 2000 grit made alot of difference so I will co over the whole thing with it. I just hope my buffer is fixed by the time I am done sanding.

Looks awesome Skibum! I can't wait to see it buffed out! You should be able to get all that yellow dust out of your garage sometime around 2050 or so! :D

Hey SKIBUM1M,
You will be finding yellow paint for years to come. :p
It always seems to find a way, even with all the plastic surrounding the boat. All I can say is I think it will be well worth it. :D
It is really looking good.

Re: transom and floor replacement

Tonight I finished wet sanding the hull. I bought a mop and bucket to start cleaning up a bit. I am still cleaning up sand from blasting 2 years ago. I found out my $200 buffer is not worth fixing but a friend offered his snap on one that he hasn't used in years but wont be home to send it till he gets back to Pittsburgh. I cant wait a week to buff the hull so I will use my air powered one. It just takes forever because you use it for a couple minutes and then you have to wait for the ice to thaw in it. Maybe I will check the discount tool store to see if they have a $30 cheapo to get by with. I have to buff out the hull, Drill and install the keelguard, Install the bow and transom eyes, then I can flip it.

Re: transom and floor replacement

Best way to avoid ice up like that is to get a water extractor/filter for the line. I think you can get a cheap one for less than a replacement/cheapo DA sander...

Re: transom and floor replacement

Eric I have a water seperator but not big enough. When it is so cold I get alot of condensation. But the point is nill, I rented a buffer for $20 and got it done. Then waxed it and flipped it. It was a very productive night but now I have to start all over. The cap is a mess. Tomorrow I need to mask off all the carpet and start sanding, filling and sanding some more then spray and sand alot more. Well on with the pics.
DSC00560.jpg

All smooth and shiney. I could have done better on the sanding and buffing but Gelcoat doesnt keep for very long so I had to call it good.
DSC00561.jpg

I drilled and installed the keel guard with a bead of silicone under it to try and keep it from wearing thru the gelcoat again.
DSC00562.jpg

Brand new Bow eye installed. There was alot of dust I had to crawl in under the boat.
DSC00565.jpg

The other side.
DSC00566.jpg

Look a 3 tone paint job:D

Re: transom and floor replacement

DSC00568.jpg

The transom is perfect. And once again I had to crawl in dust to install the transom eyes.
DSC00567.jpg

Alot of work to do on the cap. And all the wetsanding ran down on the cap as well as overspray and pva.
DSC00569.jpg

I forgot how nice the new floor is since it has been flipped for a month
DSC00572.jpg

I masked over where the rubrail sits so I dont fill the screws
DSC00573.jpg

The cap has alot less area but I think it may take alot longer because of all the detail sanding.
