Re: transom and floor replacement

I just had to go back to the start of this thread just to remind myself what this boat used to look like. WOW. Sure you didn't pull a swap on us? Without the cap I had no idea how beautiful the lines were.

She's gonna look sharp out there on the water. I think the yellow was a very wise decision.:)

Re: transom and floor replacement

Thanks tallcanadian I am looking forward to summer to take it out.
Arch, I was thinking some wooden benches:) Actually I cant wait to see the design myself, as I havent decided yet. I just know 2 buckets and the bench in the back and they will be purple and yellow.
ezombee, Well the project started out as putting new spark plugs in the motor and.. Well I got bored and well, You should see what happened when the wife asked me to change a lightbulb in the kitchen.:D
Thanks mitch, I have to go back myself and see what it used to look like. I am amazed at how different it looks now.

Looking good skibum! Did you have to do any work on the aluminum on the windshield to get it to look that good?

Mick, I just cleaned it with windex, It is anodized aluminum which makes it so you cant polish it or anything. I wish I could shine it more. There are snaps on clips along the top which I will be removing since I removed all the snaps from the cap. This will just give it a lottle cleaner look.

Re: transom and floor replacement

Today I put it back on the trailer and pulled it out of the garage. Now for the contest. Anyone who is good with photoshop, could you please use one of the first 2 pictures below to add a design on the side of the boat in purple. I am thinking maybe scalops or flames but am open to anything creative. No airbrushing, shading, or multiple colors other than pinstriping. The more options the better. The design we like best will be painted on the boat. Thanks for the work in advance. I know I am asking alot but I dont have photoshop myself and multiple Ideas is always better.

Notice the complete lack of snow in the pictures. This is the middle of Feb on the Canadian border.

That boat is gonna stand out in a crowd for sure. I wonder what the windshield trim and chrome trim would look like in black. Hmmm.

Damn it Tallcanadian, now I have to take it all apart, sandblast the chrome and paint it all. Well maybe sometime down the road. Maybe someone can show me that on photoshop also.

Hey SKIBUM1M,
The boat looks great. I wish I could help with the photo shop but I don't have it either.
You know you could re-anodize the windshield frame any color you want. :D:p
The boat really looks great. Very nice work.

Re: transom and floor replacement

Why is everyone trying to make more work for me? I have got to get the interior upholstered and the contrasting color painted then I will see what it looks like. I am also trying to figure out what to do for the dash. It had like a plastic sticker behind the gauges and switches which tore coming off. I planned on making wood panels and finishing them nice but liiking at it wood would not fit the look of the boat. so now I am considdering vinyl wrapped wood, maybe somehow carbonfiber, aluminum, I dont know. What do you guys think?
by the way notice the rollers on the trailer. I wrapped them in t-shirt rags so they didnt mark the botom of the boat while winching it on. My neighbor is a prison guard and gets me scraps from the tailor shop. He said they throw them away by the barrel ful. I used tons of them gelcoating, buffing, and waxing the boat.

Hey SKIBUM1M,
I saw some vinyl wrap material on line that looked pretty cool in several different patterns including carbon fiber, brushed steel and several others. It was called metalized vinyl, I think. They use it in sign construction and several other applications.
Just a thought

What I'm trying to do with my dash is lexan. I figure, cut the holes, and paint it black. Then (carefully without scratching the paint) etch the embelishments, lines, etc. through the black paint. Then clearcoat the whole thing. Wrap red led lights around the edges, and the accents should turn red when the lights are on.

I wish I had mine done so we could say how hard is is or not. Here's the photo-shopped idea.

Hi all, new here, new boat owner! Skibum you have inspired me along with all the others that contribute to this site. I decided to chime in with some graphics for your boat, I?m not an expert designer by any means, just messing around with a paint program! I have a boat that is very similar to yours in the basic look, it?s an 18? 1983 Wellcraft that I picked up for $2500. Engine is good, just needs a tune up but the deck will need to be replaced along with all the upostery. I will probably run it this summer and then take it apart next winter, we shall see!

If you have a TAP plastics around you, they carry a carbon fiber looking plastic that would work great for the dash. I think tailgunner did this with his Wellcraft and it turned out looking good.
