Thanks mick, I am so glad to know it will be on the lake for the beginning of the season. There is still a little work to do but nothing major and it will be on the water on the first nice day of the season. Your project wont be far behind. I had an advantage: I dont have a pesky job to get in the way of progress.

Probably more happy that she wasnt here while most of it was being done. She missed out on the itching, the smell of fiberglass, the smell of gelcoat, not to mention the hours and hours I spent in the garage.

I would do a video but I just dont trust my 4 year old to launch and drive the boat. If the wife were here I would. I will try to get some pictures though. Now what is the correct procedure for launching a new boat? I cant break a champaign bottle because people might get upset about broken glass on the launch.

Wrap a Corona in a tshirt and break it on the bow. Wait take the boat out and find a cove.Drop anchor and drink it while you admire your handy work. Great job and what a cool ride you have.

I took the boat out for a test drive and to figure out where to mount the pitot and fishfinder sensor. Wow it was nice. Got up to 35 and planes out quick. I didnt get video but I will post some pics soon. I did find a couple problems. It starts hard after sitting for a while. When its warm it starts with just a bump of the starter but when its cold you have to choke it and crank forever. Also its charging at over 16 volts. From my automotive background I would assume that is bad. Let me know what you guys think.

Smash a bottle on someone else's hull This one is too nice. You could smash one of those little airplane bottles of booze or one of the chocolate ones.

Wonder if you're flooding when cold. Fuel not atomizing from clogged jets or float or needle and seat issues. Does she idle ok once warmed up.

Sprintst, she idles and runs perfect when she is warmed up. I was thinking a pinhole in the fuel system that is allowing the fuel to drain or something. I will do some chbecking on it today.
Is 16 volts way too high for an outboard to be charging? Automotive alternators charge at about 14

Great news on splashdown. We will be looking forward to seeing the pics.
As for the charging system.
I believe it is supposed to be between 14-14.5 Volts at 2000 RPM.
I'm sure someone with more expertise will chime in.

It has rained every day since my last post so my boat work consists of knocking the water off the cover. This rain is not helping my boating or reroofing plans. I discovered an island close by that has capsites on it that are free to use anytime and since you have to have a boat to get there its not crowded. I think we will be there alot this summer. If only there was internet to get my iboat fix while i was camping. Anyone know the best way to make sure the boat doesnt wash in or out overnight without a dock. Im thinking anchor on one end and a line tied to a tree on the other. I just dont want to find the anchor slipped overnight and find my boat sitting on the beach in the morning.

there is a thread on here about that issue. It has some good info. i think it is called to beach or not to beach. anchor bow out so the bow breaks the waves and tie transom to shore in two places leave it in about 4 or 5 foot of water.
Get one of those metal anchors that has the spades that dig in as it is pulled on and you should be fine.

Sorry no updates for a while, I took on a huge home project. I am replacing the roof on my house since all the plywood is rotted. However the addition that connects the house to the garage was framed completely wrong so I poured a new concrete floor and today removed 2 of the 5 18foot beams for the roof. They just laid the beams for the addition and the top of the garage roof with no supports so the whole area dips by a couple inches. They also had no header over the door so support 2 of those same beams so the top sill bowed about an inch. I will be adding a header, new peak beam, and a new load bearing wall to support the center of the beams. 18 foot 2x6's with no support. People can screw up a house worse than a boat.
