I have a transom bracket leaking and am wondering what is involved in repairing. I am told by the previous owner that some tips are broke off. Any suggestions.

You are gonna need to be more specific, esp. what drive do you have....

Have a 1982 26' Searay Sundancer with a Mercruiser 350 GM with 260 horse and I have been told a Bravo stearndrive. The leak is very small and after using boat for all day bilge will pump out 2 gallons or so.

Doubtful you have a Bravo drive......
Anyway take a flashlight & look at the inner transom, just above the input shaft.....
There is a hole approx 1/8" in diameter.....
If water is weeping through that hole, you have water in your bellows & your problems have just started.....:(
Otherwise, you will need to look really hard & try to determine where it is coming from.....;)

Ayuh,......... I'd guess that your drive is the Almost an Alpha 1 drive,.....
The actual Alpha 1s were introed in 83 I Think.......

Bravos came along Much Later.........

As noted by Haut,.......
You Really have to isolate Exactly where it's leaking to develop a strategy to Repair it........

Some of the Tricks are,....
Mirrors,....
Flashlights,.....
Talcum Powder,.....
Being double-jointed,.....
Standing on your Head,.....
Removing a considerable portion of the Boat Seats,+ Stuff,......
An experienced Operator,+ Calm Seas.............;)

Calm seas??????? Where's the fun in that???

GaBoy, pull the drive and see if there is water in the bellows, if there is it will leak into the boat, you need to replace your bellows, probably the gimbal bearing, ujoints, and check the drive for water.
Then go looking for other leaks.

Re: Transom Bracket Leaking

Thanks for all the info. I sure hope it is not the worst senario. Everyday I leave it in the water approx. 2 to 3 gallons leaks in. I took a shop vac and drained it dry and in 24 hrs the same amount of water. The previous owner told me that he just replaced all the inner parts including the gimble. He told me that it is leaking at the bottom of the bracket where some small ends (tits) are broken off. Is my leg getting pullled by him???????

He also told me that the engine has to be removed to repair and remove the sterndrive. How do I tell what type of stearndrive it is? He told me it was a bravo. So, who knows. Thanks again ya'll.

I'm sure you have a one drive the predicessor of the. Pre Alpha. They have 2 aluminum thru bolts at the bottom of the transom shield that have the anodes mounted on them. (tits????) The bolts are probably corroded away and allowing water into the boat. Problem with that, is it takes a long time and usually indicates the transom is rotted also.
