well Ive already done this repair and want your feedback on how sound you think it is. the transom on my 14' boat was too short it would have left the long shaft motor hanging too far in the water so i decided to build it up 6" not being able to totally remove and replace transom with taller board i decided to peg it and fill in. The wood had delaminated in some places so I wedged it open then poured poly in then clamped, then I used some 8 to 10" 3/8" drill bits 9 of them, drilled the holes then dipped in resin and tapped back in,then drilled 6 holes inbetween bits and dipped and tapped 3/8 wood dowels in also I put four 4" wood dowels per side on each side of transom then I wove some fiberglass into the pegging and dyked off both sides and poured in poly now I have added 2 more layers of glass to outside of back of transom and Im finish sanding the inside is still open and here where I want some opinions is it good enough i mean it seems strong as he77 but I have never done this before and I know it may not be the best but it seems like theres more than 1 ways to do things so please give your opinions good or bad theres still time to add say another piece of board on inner transom if needed or I could just glass it in as is I only have and all previous mentions have been glass mat not sure what ounce.should I use roving to finish inner skin or will this work I know you can't guarantee its safe and whatnot I just want your opinion thanks for all

Epoxy would have been the resin to use, but it's too late for that now. If you have the room(width) in the transom, I would add an inner board to solidify the job and glass over that with roven or mat. You didn't mention the size of your motor.

by the way it will carry a 55hp chrysler and I know epoxy is the stuff but budget said find another way, what size board thickness do you reckon? do you think it would snap or crack easy without it or just to hard to tell?

Yes, I think over time it will crack. Poly glass isn't strong enough to hold it by itself. I would use as thick a piece as you can get by with allowing the motor to still fit over the transom. 5/8 or 3/4 would be ideal. If you're in the middle of the project, it's best to just do it right now, rather than having to re-do the whole thing if it cracks down the road. Just my opinion.
