Re: Transom cap removal???

Just wanted to share my progress. I still need to sand but she's getting close. I intend on using wood on the top corners of the transom similar to how Mark42 did his.

Quick thanks to everyone that's help me get this far. This forum is the best.

...%...This forum is the best.

yes it is. Closest thing to the newsgroup culture back in the mid '90s. I am gald to be a part of it too. Wish the freshwater fishing forum was more active...

Anyway- great job on the clean out. I use my boat a lot and have another project planned, but I really enjoyed my Niagara resto in 01/02. We LOVE the boat.

The next project is a Reinell donor hull that will get a diet with my Tiger Saw and turn into a fishing machine (the Niagara gets crowded with more than two or three aboard) but my 13 year old daughter told me, "It's OK if you get another boat, but you can't sell this one!"

Of course she said the same about my Aussie Capri XR2 and when the '68 Beetle went away she was devastated. But I think I shouldn't sell the Niagara either.

Can't wait for pictures and stories of your adventures on the water when you get done.

I guess my initial clean up wasn't as good as I thought. Look what else came out. That would of been very bad.

Mark good luck with the new project, like you I don't think I'll ever sell my MFG. She's like family now. I'm sure there a lot of folks in this forum the feel the same way.

Re: Transom cap removal???

Finally got back to work after getting hardner in my eye. No harm done, went to emergency and they flushed out my eye. I was in a hurry and forgot to put on eye protection. Lesson learned the hard way. ;)

On the good side I finally poured the seacast. Wow that was easy, a little messy but not bad at all. Tip: Have someone help you. The transom sounds great, SOLID as a rock. I'll wait a couple of days and finish it off. Hopefully it'll be completely done by next week. I have to get a few rides in before it gets too cold and I have to put her away.

After some additional fiberglass work and sanding, I'm finally DONE. Placed cap on the transom and it fit perfectly. Wow, I can't believe I did it. I couldn't have done it without this forum so Thank you everyone.

I hadn't registered her so I just did on line. With such a short amount of time to even use her, I was a little hesitant to spend the money, but I had to. I have to take her out a couple of times, at least.

Attached the 1974 50hp Merc, Minn Kota trolling motor, gas cans, batteries, and tried to get her to purr. Started on the first crank. Music to my ears. I can't wait till next week. I think I'll give her a wash and wax tomorrow. Pics to come.

Didn't get her out since we had family plans Saturday and it rained all day Sunday. In any case here's a picture of her on the driveway. I'm hoping for better weather this weekend, right now forecast is for rain.
