I have a 1955 Evinrude Fastwin 15hp. The ends of the transom clamps protrude beyond the cupped washers. Anyone know a good way to remedy this so that the washers, not the ends of the clamps, bear the stress of the clamping? The ends of the clamps seem to be peened over to hold the washers onto the clamps, but how do I peen them? There is so little space to work!

get a washer about the same size, and put it between the clamp and transom. or put a motor mount plate on the transom, mark where the bolt is and remove the plate, drill holes where the bolt hits. thus the washers hold.

tashasdaddy:

DUH!!!

My bad.

I'm not dumb, just sometimes slow!

Had thought of plate with holes as you suggested, but washers seems a great idea. Sometimes I get so fixated on bringing it back to where it "should" be that I overlook simple solutions. Good to think outside the box, or aft of the transmo or whatever. Thx.
